Skye is a second-year Master of Environmental Science candidate at the Yale School of the Environment. Originally from North Carolina, she earned her Bachelor of Science in Geography and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) from the University of South Alabama, where she worked in the de Oliveira Tropical Conservation Lab. Her undergraduate thesis focused on land-use changes in the Mobile-Tensaw Delta, also known as “America’s Amazon.” Now, in her Master’s program, Skye’s research centers on the actual Amazon rainforest in Brazil. She is using drone and remote sensing technology to study the thermal characteristics of forest edges created by deforestation and fragmentation, as well as exploring land management practices that can mitigate these impacts.
