Sophia Simon is a first-year Master of Environmental Science candidate at the Yale School of the Environment (YSE). She is Swiss-American and holds a B.A. in Biology and International Development from the University of Pennsylvania. Her research focuses on soil biodiversity in regenerating secondary forest in the Atlantic Forest, Brazil. Before YSE, she focused on quantifying the carbon, biodiversity, and hydrological ecosystem services provided by forest and agricultural land use management. She has worked in carbon and biodiversity markets developing and implementing projects in the tropics, and has provided land use management guidance for nonprofits, government, and private actors.
